Welcome to The Old Vicarage, Tideswell
The Old Vicarage is a comfortable family home, offering luxury B&B in a Grade II listed former vicarage; situated in the heart of the picturesque Peak District village of Tideswell.
The Old Vicarage is south facing and set within a walled garden with views of the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’ and village beyond. Husband and wife team, Tricia and Andrew, aim to create a friendly and delightful atmosphere, perfect as a base for relaxing or exploring.
Tideswell offers a superb base for discovering the beautiful Peak District, whether you like walking, mountain biking, caving, climbing, exploring historic buildings and villages, or just visiting coffee shops, there is plenty to discover at every turn. Guests enjoy a taste of the Peak District in everything from the superb location between Buxton and Bakewell to the delicious local produce served at breakfast.
The village of Tideswell dates back earlier than Roman times, and at Domesday, it was part of the large parish of Hope, but in 1207 it was granted to Thomas Armiger and in 1251, a market charter. Tideswell became a thriving market town selling local produce, including wool and lead.
Tideswell markets are no more, but its magnificent church reflects the town’s prosperity at the time, dedicated to St John the Baptist and completed in the 14th century, it is often referred to as the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’ and is seen for miles around. The Old Vicarage was the vicarage to the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’ up until 1993 when Tricia and Andrew moved in.
Despite its small population, Tideswell still has a range of places to eat and drink including four pubs and a lively brasserie. As well as the local village eateries, just a few miles away are the award winning restaurants including Fischer’s Baslow Hall, The Cavendish Baslow, The Riverside Ashford in the Water and The Peacock Rowsley.
Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a place to celebrate a special occasion or a base for walking and cycling, you are sure to enjoy a stay at The Old Vicarage. Tricia and Andrew look forward to welcoming you to their home and helping to make your visit to the Peak District as memorable as possible.
